Mighty Michigan Mystique 13 November 2015 - 31 March 2018 Rest in peace sweet baby girl.
After a week in intensive care. we found out on 28 March 2018 that Mystique has a condition called CIPO, Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction Disease. CIPO is an exceptionally rare autoimmune disease that basically causes her intestines to cease functioning completely. On 31 March 2018 after 13 days of extensive treatment, Mystique failed to respond to everything the veterinary hospital in Columbus could do. We had no choice but to make the decision to end her suffering. One point I need to make is that this disease is so exceedingly rare that there is no way any breeder can foresee or prevent it. Mystique’s parents and their lines could have millions of more puppies and never see this disease occur again. Don and Amy Barton of Mighty Michigan’s Bulldogges are horrified and were quite devastated to learn about a puppy from their program would go through this. I’ve talked with all our many Veterinarians about this and they all agree, no breeder of any dog of any breed could do anything to prevent this from happening. Mighty Michigan's breeding lines are strong and heathy and what happened to Mystique is not caused by her parents, it is just something peculiar to Mystique’s unique biological circumstance. Since Mystique is our only breeding age female, Barnes Bulldogges will not be having any litters in 2018 or 2019. The emotional impact here is impossible to describe as it seems so cruel for a young healthy dog to fall so quickly and with no warning. The kindness and emotional support we've received from so many has been greatly appreciated.
